Prevention:

  1. Stay Hydrated: Drink lots of water throughout the day, even if you’re not thirsty. Avoid sugary or caffeinated drinks.
  2. Dress Cool: Wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothes.
  3. Take Breaks: Rest in the shade or indoors with air conditioning, especially during the hottest part of the day (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.).
  4. Use Sunscreen: Protect your skin from sunburn.
  5. Plan Wisely: Do active play early in the morning or late in the evening when it’s cooler.

Treatment:

  1. For Heat Exhaustion: Move to a cool place, loosen tight clothes, sip water, and put cool, wet cloths on your skin. If you don’t feel better in an hour or if you get worse, see a doctor.
  2. For Heat Stroke: Call 911 right away. Move to a cool place, try to cool down with cool cloths or a bath, but don’t drink anything.
