Covid-19 is NOT a virus.

It is the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. (A virus is defined as microscopic infectious agent that can only replicate in another cell. A virus’s only purpose is to infect and replicate)

Covid-19 Stands for:

CO- Corono

VI- Virus

D-Disease and

19 –The year it was discovered ( 2019)

The virus itself SARS-CoV-2 stands for:
Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2.

The SARS-CoV-2 virus is a type of coronavirus.
There are seven types of coronovirus.

Four types cause 15 percent of the common cold: 0C43, HKU1, 229E and NL63

Three types cause severe respiratory disease: MERS, SARS-CoV and now the novel SARS-Cov-2 (which causes Covid-19)

SARS-CoV-2 was first isolated in Wuhan China in December of 2019. It most likely originated in bats and then jumped to human in a wet market (marketplace that sells various animals for consumption).

They are called Coronovirus because under
TEM (transmission electron microscopy) the virus has club shaped spikes

all around the virus that make it look like an image of the solar corona (AKA the SUN). These spikes (peplomeres) are used to help penetrate the targeted cell (especially cells in the lungs) by the virus. Once inside, the virus uses the cells RNA to replicate itself and infect other cells. Coronovirus
